Height of Fraudulent Technique

"Hello, this is Priya Roy from SEBI compliance department calling from Kolkata. Have you ever been a victim of frauds in chit fund case or insurance? If yes, then we may help you!!", the calling end said. "Wow!! this is great!!", I thought. 

"Would you like to complain your case through us?", She asked. I said "Yes" immediately. 

I sensed something fishy when she further asked me to submit the evidences (whatever I have) within 24 hrs. No government department in India gives such short deadlines. The instruction was to send the snapshots of the evidences and a complain letter. The complain letter was to be addressed to the regional officer, SEBI, Nariman point, Mumbai. I followed their instruction thinking that lets give it a try. After submitting the documents through whatsapp, they even issued a complain id.

3-4 days later, I again received their call and the other end said "We verified that you have invested 'X' amount. The total amount 'Y' with interest will be your refund amount but using security." I asked "How did you verify that I had invested 'X' amount? Also, why refund is through security?" The calling end replied, " We have logged into your account and checked that 'X' amount was the invested. Also, SEBI refund method is always through security. So you have to give us Rs 12,400 for buying a security. And your amount will be credited in the security the same way demat account works." 

Although, this conversations is enough to be sure that its a clear fraud case. Yet, I called SEBI immediately and asked if they have any such compliance wing. SEBI's reply was negative. This is the height of fraud's technique in these days. They try to gain your sympathy first and then look for opportunities.
